Spotlight Sunday: Anna Virginia Fashioneering

Well this week's featured seller is so nice! She makes the nicest things and has been selling on Etsy since March 2010. She sent me some photos of her at work.

I checked out her etsy profile and here it is:
"I'm Anna, and I first learned to crochet and sew around age five. I started off by making my dolls all of their own clothes. I would even wrap the clothes up and put them under the tree for the doll to open on Christmas!

I've been designing ever since! In high school I took sewing classes, and was always ahead in the class, but I still didn't know that it was my future. I finally realized after I'd already been in college for two years, and was getting ready to serve a mission for my Church. I found that clothing was something I loved to wear, modify, and design. Realizing that I want to help the world, clothing is a great path to follow because it is one of the three basic items that a person needs to survive; Food, Clothing and Shelter. With this talent, I can clothe the world, one item at a time.

I finished my bachelor degree in April 2009, and have since been a Homemaker. I take care of my husband and new baby and make them and myself many projects that will keep them clothed and warm for years to come."

How did you get started on Etsy?

- I've been told that the things I was making were so cute that I should try selling them. Many of the people suggested Etsy. Finally after a couple of years I decided to give it a try.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
- I'm a stay-at-home-mom, I've been married nearly 2.5 years and have a 6 month-old sweet little girl. I come from a family who is creative, and that flows in my blood so strongly that I'm always thinking up new designs and ideas.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?
- I watch over my baby, take care of my home and husband. I'm helping him get through his last year of college - We can't wait!

What first made you want to become an artist?
- I've been an artist since I was a child, so I don't know. I've always made things for my dolls and myself and my friends and family. I would come up with an idea and it would catch like wildfire! Everyone would ask me to make them something. I've never stopped!

Please describe your creative process.
- I see a need, or a desire. For example, my little girl hasn't fit in any of the shoes that I've found at the stores. So I came up with a few ideas of what I would want in a baby shoe. I got some pointers from other patterns and started to crochet little booties that are so stylish and fun, that I get comments and compliments everywhere we go. Basically, if I see something out in the fashion industry that I like or want, I think about it and see if there is any way I could make it instead of buying it. Sometimes I come up with it in a few days, other times it may take a few months.

Name your top five books, movies, musicians, and websites besides Etsy.
- I love Ravelry.com, it's a great resource for yarn-crafts, and I network through their social aspects.

How does your faith influence your work on Etsy?
- My items are based on clothing the family. I have to come up with a few ideas for the father, but I'm getting there! I focus on modesty, fashion, longevity and class in all my products. Also, clothing is one of the three basic needs of people: Food, Clothing and Shelter. I hope to at least help the world with one of those needs, and try to provide long-lived style clothing that is consistent with the teachings of the Church.

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?
- There is so much information out there! I suggest joining a group, and asking questions as you find new problems, ideas, or concerns. Many of the long-timers on Etsy have sources to where you can find answers to your questions, since they have asked they questions before.

In ten years, where would you like to be?
- I'd love to be designing for my own brand name. What a dream! We'll see if I make it, since my priorities lie with my little family. :)

What is your favorite item from your shop?
- My "Piggy Peeps" http://www.etsy.com/listing/47600730/piggy-peeps-blue-with-pink
